Arts Animator

We are looking to hire one full-time and one part-time animator for the Recreational and Therapeutic Arts Program. The arts animators implement arts-based teaching and learning strategies for autistic and intellectually challenged adults (18+).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art education, fine arts, or education
  • Minimum 2 years experience teaching people with ASD and intellectual disorders.
  • Teaching adults in community settings is an asset.
  • Bilingual (verbal and written communication in English and French)

Roles and Responsibilities

The art animators will work closely with the program coordinator to achieve the following tasks:
 
  • Teach knowledge and skills in visual art, including drawing, painting, and mixed media
  • Provide instruction by which learners understand artistic concepts and develop aesthetic appreciations
  • Demonstrate artistic techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, collage
  • Have adequate knowledge of the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, mono-printing
  • Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to mixed media technique
  • Provide one-to-one instruction to adapt to the needs of learners with varying intellectual and artistic abilities
  • Organize storage areas and control the use of materials and tools to prevent loss and minimize the time required for distribution and collection
  • Evaluate each learner’s skills development and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
  • Accompany learners in museum and exhibitions visits
  • Communicate with parents or caregivers and follow up with each learner’s progress
  • Perform other Administration duties (registration and consent, Learners’ profile, and documentation

Requirements

  • Able to work in community settings with the interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent organizational and inter-communication skills
  • Collaboration with the program’s coordinator in day-to-day activities planning
  •  Demonstrate patience, respect, and empathy
  • Complete a criminal record check
  • Have completed or will complete a workplace First Aid Course
