53rd Lori Black Memorial Golf Tournament

53rd Lori Black Memorial Golf Tournament

The Miriam Foundation raised over $ 437,000 through its 53rd Annual Lori Black Memorial Golf Tournament. The Miriam Foundation hosted its 53rd Lori Black Memorial Golf Tournament at the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club in Mirabel, where 204 golfers took part on July 10, 2017.

The golf tournament is one of the longest standing charitable events in Canada and of the most respected tournaments in the country. Once again this year, the tournament was an immense success thanks to its Honorary Chairman, the Montreal based businessman Mr. Herbert Black, Chairman Norman Bercovitch and Committee Members Louis Ludwick, Adam Ray, Steve Shepherd and Howard Staviss, who helped raise over $437,000 on behalf of the Foundation.

"This golf tournament makes a tremendous difference. It opens the world’s eyes on what are the needs of kids, intellectually handicap, dyslexic and autistic”, said Mr. Herbert Black, Honorary Chairman. The amount raised will allow the Miriam Foundation to continue offering individualized support services to children and adults with autism spectrum disorders or intellectual disabilities.

The tournament was honored by many public figures, including the current hockey star Paul Byron and the legends Vincent Damphousse and Guy Carbonneau from the Montreal Canadiens, Jason Devine from Bell Media, Ken Connors from CJAD and Sean Campbell from TSN Radio, Evelyn and David Kozloff, Salvatore Parasuco, and many more business leaders and celebrities.

At the cocktail emceed by the extraordinary Mose Persico from CTV Montreal, the guests were touched by the profound testimonial from a mother of a 4-year-old son diagnosed with autism. The Honorary Chairman also conducted a live auction where unique pieces were auctioned off including two Air Canada tickets, Maurice Richard autographed hockey stick, Sidney Crosby autographed jersey framed and limited edition Guy Lafleur signed Montreal forum seat. The guests of honour were able to finish off the day with an exclusive dinner at the exquisite home of Herb and Veronique Black.

For the Miriam Foundation, the success of this event demonstrates the expanding commitment of the business community to people afflicted with ASDs and IDs, the needs of whom continue to grow yearly. The substantial sum raised will ensure that The Miriam Foundation will continue to provide programs that support individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities along their lifelong journey.
