Adult Leisure Activities

Through the adult leisure activities funded by the Azrieli Foundation, we offer group activities are offered to individuals who live in the community to encourage and develop social interactions, the use of acquired personal and interpersonal skills and interdependence. Because We Know Creating a Sense of Belonging Is Key

Group activities are offered to individuals who live in the community in order to encourage and develop social interactions, the use of acquired personal and interpersonal skills and interdependence.

Leisure activities are a critical dimension of the quality of life for all people, particularly for individuals with a neurodevelopmental disorder – an often-forgotten segment of the population. These activities are a vehicle through which they have fun, develop friendships, socialize in a peer group, and develop skills and competencies.

Miriam Foundation launched the Azrieli Adult Leisure Program in the fall of 2011 and has been providing leisure activities on evenings and weekends ever since. The emphasis on group activities allows participants to enjoy their leisure time, create and nurture friendships, and maintain and enhance their social language and motor skills.

Rafi Azrieli Social Skills Program

The Rafi Azrieli Social Skills Program is designed for young adults in the community who wish to participate in group activities that foster social interaction, build on personal and interpersonal skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging and interdependence.

Participants work together to prepare a simple, nourishing meal. Each person contributes by helping with cooking, baking, setting the table, or cleaning up afterward. Sharing a meal becomes a communal activity that encourages collaboration and connection.

In addition, facilitators offer group-based activities—such as art, baking, board games, book club, science projects, and physical activities—while also supporting individual projects that reflect participants’ interests. The focus on group engagement provides opportunities to enjoy leisure time, create and sustain friendships, and develop social communication, collaboration, and motor skills.

A unique feature of this program is its partnership with the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). Sessions are held at the Wagar Adult Learning Centre, where a teacher remains present throughout the program. The teacher integrates individualized learning goals into activities, such as math, reading, or memory exercises.
