Connecting Families with Autism Resources: Miriam to host Annual Open House & special event on May 1st
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Miriam announces a series of initiatives aimed at fostering understanding, support, and resources for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. As part of this effort, the Foundation will host an Open House event on May 1st, inviting parents, caregivers, educators and other professionals to explore new options and programs available for autistic individuals at its Gold Learning and Research Centre, in Mount-Royal.
The Open House will provide an opportunity for families and professionals to visit the facilities, meet with specialists, and learn about the wide range of services designed to support neurodiverse individuals at every stage of life. Attendees will have access to informative sessions, guided tours, and one-on-one consultations with experts in the field.
Throughout the day, visitors will be invited to tour the Gold Centre and explore the clinical, educational, and artistic programs supported by the Foundation. Each visit will conclude with an art exhibition showcasing the creative talents of neurodivergent individuals, along with an opportunity for meaningful exchanges with Miriam’s professionals. These visits will offer opportunities for meaningful exchange between Miriam Foundation and Gold Centre staff, families, field experts, and dedicated partners in a warm and welcoming atmosphere that fosters dialogue and future collaboration.
“Our mission at the is to provide innovative and life-changing programs for individuals with autism and their families,” said Warren Greenstone, CEO of the Miriam Foundation. “By opening our doors on May 1st, we hope to connect families with the resources they need and showcase the many ways we can help improve quality of life for those on the spectrum.”
The Foundation is seeking the community’s support
The Open House and Autism Awareness Month activities come at a critical time when socio-economic challenges are leading to reductions in government funding for essential services, placing increased pressure on private organizations such as the Miriam Foundation. In response to these challenges, the Foundation has created an ongoing fundraising campaign and established an endowment fund to ensure the long-term sustainability of its programs. These efforts aim to maintain and expand access to high-quality services for autistic individuals and their families despite financial constraints.
In addition to the Open House, Miriam will be hosting various awareness and educational activities throughout the month of April, including community outreach initiatives and fundraising efforts to further support autism programs.
Supported by the Foundation, the Gold Centre is a leader in providing comprehensive, personalized services to people of all ages with ASD or ID, as well as to their families and loved ones. Employing nearly 70 professionals, the organization serves the needs of close to 400 clients annually. The Centre also supports practitioners and education specialists, including educators, teachers and all the experts who respond to the complex needs of this clientele.
Interested families and members of the community are invited to join in these activities and take part in this important conversation. For more information on Autism Awareness Month initiatives and to register for the May 1st Open House, please click here.
